I currently work full time in private practice having retired from the NHS after 30 years working in mental health services so I have many years of experience in working collaboratively with individuals, families and carers (paid and informal) who are experiencing psychological and emotional distress.
I qualified as a Mental Health Nurse in 1978 and also trained in Person Centred Counselling, practising for many years in various settings, such as inpatient services, day hospitals and primary care, working with adults and older adults with mental health problems. More recently, prior to leaving the NHS I have worked in older adult inpatient services.
I studied Psychology at Manchester University (BSc, Hons, 1986) and Health Research (MA, 2003) at Lancaster University.
I studied for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Lancaster University and qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2010, my elective placements were in a palliative care and oncology psychology service and a psycho-sexual clinic.
My thesis was published in an international dementia journal. http://dem.sagepub.com/content/early/2012/05/14/1471301212440873.abstract
I obtained an Advanced Diploma in Holistic Hypnotherapy in 2012 and qualified as an EMDR therapist in 2020.
I recently trained in the ADOS2 and ADI-R Autism assessments.
I believe that it's imperative to tailor therapy to the needs and goals of the individual and am eclectic and integrative in my approach to therapy. My approach is underpinned by an empathic, respectful and person-centred philosophy.
